Religion in Germany

Religion in Germany is a concept according to which, the ideals of the nation are reflected. There is no single religion in Germany and thus people belonging to many religious beliefs exist in perfect harmony.

German Religions

The German Laws give people the freedom to choose their faith and religion in Germany. Germany does not possess a state church and the state does not wield control over the churches. Various religious communities in Germany are ifree to profess their faith. Christianity is a prominent religion in Germany, which is followed by over 55 million people, accounting for 67% of the entire population. However 50% of them are Protestants and the other half is Roman Catholics. A minority falls under other Christian denominations. Religion in Germany is given a great deal of importance and the liberal outlook of the nation is commendable.

Status of Religion in Germany

Numerous workers from various foreign countries are present in Germany along with their families. As a result, religious communities are considerably respected. Thus religion in Germany is treated with openness and reverence. Germany is tolerant towards other religions as in the case of Islam. Currently some 3 million Muslims (mostly Turkish people), reside in Germany and belong to 41 countries. With the incident of the National Socialist genocide, some thousand Jewish people continued to remain in Germany. At present nearly 100,000 members belong to the Jewish communities and the figures can increase in the future. The biggest Jewish community in the nation can be found in Berlin.
