The German Shorthaired Pointer is supposed to be a very versatile hunter and can be active both on land and in water. As a natural retriever the dog does very well and serves as a first-class companion for hunters. For hunting not much training is required. The German Shorthaired Pointer can be easily groomed. Its smooth coat must be brushed regularly but the dog must be given a bath only when needed.
