Germanic Tribes

It was the result of extensive research and toil that it was concluded that the formation of Germany as a nation was the result of a consolidation of different Germanic tribes. Among the prominent Germanic tribes are the the Saxons, Franks, the Swabians and the Bavarians. Some of the communities in the present nation have still retained their roots in the tradition, the language and the custom of these Germanic Tribes.

Some of the other Germanic clans that occupied the country were the Suevi and Cherusci. History also has mention of Germanic Ethnic communities like the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Iazyges, which had gained prominence during the 2nd century B.C. Post 5th century B.C, when the Germans occupied the whole of Western Roman Empire, these Germanic tribes adopted Christianity and laid the foundation of medieval Europe.

Post- first World War saw these Germanic Tribes venturing into a period when they had to face much pain and infliction. New states were to be build and new boundaries were drawn, irrespective of the differences in the prevalent culture and tradition of the tribal regions. Different tribes were clustered into one land, leading to more communal and tribal fights. The occupying powers in these regions gave a blind eye to the qualms of the Germanic natives. A mass homogenization of the land and people because of the industrial advent and mass immigration, further dissolved the boundaries of the ethnic diversities.

The Sorbs, Frisians, Danes, German Sinti, and Romas are the Germanic minorities, who are considered to be the descendants of these Germanic native communities. The Frisians are considered to be the descendants of a Germanic tribe, that resided in the Northern Sea coast. Another Danish minority who are considered to be the descendants of Germanic tribes, reside in the Schleswig region in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

Although a minority in the vast population of Germany, these Germanic minorities have retained the collective experience of the people and the Germanic tribes. They have retained the culture, the tradition and most of all, the history of Germany.
