German History

The history of Germany can be traced back to the period of the Holy Roman Empire, which came into being in the 9th century and fell in 1806. The History of Germany can be traced from the following historical chronology:
  • 1815 to 1866- The German Confederation was founded on the land of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nations. The confederation consisted of 39 states under the leadership of Austria.

  • 1871 to 1918- The rise of German Empire can further be divided into the Age of Bismarck and the Wilhelminian Era.

  • 1919 to 1933- The formation of Weimer Republic. On the 11th August 1919

  • 1933 to 1945- The advent of Nazi Germany by Adolf Hitler and the successive plunder of World War II.

  • 1945 to 1990- The emergence of Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic.

One cannot avoid to discuss the culture, the people and the religion when one discusses about the history of Germany. It is believed that the Celts were the first to inhabit Germany. Then it were the Germanic tribes who followed the Celts into the country. The first of the ethnic communities in Germany were the Franks, who gained supremacy in the land after the fall of the Holy Roman Empire, under the leadership of Charlemagne who was then the Holy Roman Emperor.

Presently, the total German population is a mix of ethnic communities comprising of Greek, Italians, Poles, Russians, Serbo Croatians and Spaniards. The history of Germany and its culture has always drawn the attention of researchers and the students from all over the world but its importance is felt only when it comes to the cognizant memory of the people in Germany.
