Located in the south of Denmark, this Central European country borders the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Situated between the Netherlands and Poland, the latitude of Germany is 51 00° N and longitude is 9 00° E. The Geography of Germany includes a total surface area of 356,910 square kilometers and has a coastline of 2,389 kilometers.
Germany population amounts to a total of 82,400,996, there is a rich diversity of ethnic communities in Germany. Apart from Germans, there are a considerable number of Turks, Greeks, Italians, Poles, Russians, Serbo Croatians and Spaniards. Flanked by the beautiful countries of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland, the climate and the topography of Germany is equally mesmerizing. Germany has a temperate as well as marine climatic condition, with cloudy, cool and wet winters and summers with a high humidity percentage. The occasional tropical warm winds provide relief. The climate of Germany is varied, just like culture and the tradition of the country.
The topographical features of Germany boast of a diversity that is customary of its geographical position. Germany has lowlands in the north, highlands in the center and has the towering contours of the Bavarian Alps in south. The lowest point in Germany is the Freepsum Lake, which has a depth of about 2 m and the highest point in Germany is that of the Zugspitze, which has an altitude of 2,962 meters. Quite akin to the topographical diversity of Germany, the mineral resources of Germany are also varied. The natural resources in Germany include iron ore, natural gas, lignite, potash, coal, timber, uranium, copper, salt and nickel.
The geography of Germany also includes the total land mass under occupation. 33% of the total land mass is arable. Out of which, 1% grows permanent crops and 15% has permanent pastures. 31% of the land consists of Forests and woodland and the rest of the 20% are used for other purposes. The total irrigated land mass extends upto 4,750 sq kilometers.
Berlin being the capital, the country is considered to be one of the economic front runners in Europe.
