Some of them are even good for mountaineering and trekking.The Kellerwald houses Hesse's only national park called the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. Hub of scientific research and documentation, the national park has some of the most rare species of plants and animals. Some of the plants include virgin forest, sessile oak, St. Bernard's lilies, Cheddar pinks. Some of the rare animals include the black stork, common raven, honey buzzard, the Eurasian eagle owl and the great Grey shrike. The Rhön mountains offer a spectacular view and has attracted millions of tourists every year. Formed by the ancient active volcanoes, the mountain range is a great hiking spot.
The Westerland mountain chains house some of the most beautiful cities like the Dornburg and the Limburg an der Lahn, which are renowned for their medieval ambiance. The mountain ranges are also well known for their Grey pottery embellished by cobalt blue decoration.
