Bamberg


It is not for nothing that the city of Bamberg has received the honor of being the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. One of the most beautiful German cities, it is famous for its ancient buildings and facades. The mini water bodies criss crossing the alleys and the streets in the city provides a venetian ambiance. Quite rightly, the city is also known as the 'little Venice'. Situated in the north of Bavaria, it has a lineage of imperial roots and is therefore the best sightseeing hub of the country.

Things to Do

The intertwining streets interspersed with brooks and streamers lead to an alley of grand buildings that carry an overpowering charm. Some of these grand buildings have presently become the tourist hub of Bamberg. One such building is the ancient City Town Hall, the situation of which itself is the exemplary proof of the fine architectural technique of the bygone years. The two stoned bridges that are used to reach the hall as if add to the elegance and the class that the background. The Baroque featured facade on the one side complements well with the half-timbered facade on the other side.

The Bamberg cathedral is another such architectural structure that has always succeeded in drawing the attention of the visitors. Dating back to the 11th century, the building had Heinrich II as one of its sponsors. Another of the most favorite sightseeing spots is the tomb of Heinrich II. Two world famous bishop residencies near the cathedral are a healthy blend of the Renaissance as well as baroque architecture. Apart from these, the city holds surprises at each nook and corner with numerous churches and convents.

The statute of the Bamberg Rider has drawn the limelight for its grand architecture and the towering limits of the four towers adjoining it. A visit to the Seehof castle in the outskirts of the city is exemplary of Renaissance architecture, with beautiful parks and statues. The suburban beauty, with their small houses by the banks of the river Regnitz, portray the simplistic and the profound tempo of the city and are worth visiting too.

The comfortable restaurants and pubs are a good place to put the legs to rest. The locally brewed smoked beer are famous for their blend and taste.
