The very first mention of this important German City was made during the 1314 AD. This was followed by the capture of the city by Cistercian monastery in Reinfeld. However, in 1326, Ahrensburg was released by Count John III of Schauenburg after which the city again came under the possession of Denmark. Later, this city also acted as the seat of Stormarn Provost of the church of Lutheran for a long time.
