The President of Germany is the head of the state of Federal Republic of Germany. The German President is voted to power by a special body of the German parliament, the Federal assembly. The term of the President of Germany is limited to five years at a stretch. Though he is representative of the supreme power, his actual powers are restricted by the terms of the constitution of Germany and the German law. The first President of Germany was elected to post in 1919 after the end of the First World War and the abolishment of the Emperor of Germany, who had for so long been the political head of Germany.

The Weimer Period And The President Of Weimer Government In Germany
The Weimer period is the time post first world war, starting from 1919 and continuing up to 1933 when the first democratic government was established in Germany after Germany lost huge chunks of land, military power and, wealth and resources to the triumphant nations. The new government was headed by the Weimer presidents, who were especially called the Reichsprasident. There were six Reichsprasidents, of whom three were acting. The first being Friedrich Ebert, followed by the two acting presidents, Hans Luther and Walter Simons. The second official President was Paul Von Heidenberg, followed by Karl Donitz. Though Adolf Hitler had been the head of the state for a very important period of German history, he did not call himself the
President of Germany.
