German Helmets



German Helmets are found in different varieties. During wartime, the warriors of the German army used to wear these helmets. These helmets were mainly made up of steel. In World War I, the different models of helmets used were M16, M 17, M 18. During Second World War, the models of helmet used were M35, M40 and M42.

These helmets were introduced for the protection of the warriors against debris and shells. In 1916, the German forces innovated their helmet made of steel. The name of the model was M16. The liner band of M16 was made up of leather whereas the liner band of M17 is made up of steel. In M18, the chinstrap lug is absent.

The different types of German helmets are:
  • Police helmets of Germany (1933 to 1945): Another variety of German Helmets is police helmets of Germany. The helmets are modeled as M 34. The battle helmets have similarity in style though the liner and vents of these helmets were different.
  • World War II German Helmets: In the year 1935, a new variety of helmets were introduced. The sizes of vent lugs were minimized. The model number was M 35.
  • Transitional Helmets: The helmets used in the First World War were fitted out again with model liner of 1931 is known as Transitional Helmets.
  • Post War Helmets: These helmets were specially designed for the border guard of West Germany.
German Helmets were made for the protection of the German soldiers during wars.
