Opel



Opel is a world-class German car brand, owned by the General Motors Europe, which also owns Vauxhall and Saab. According to the General Motor Europe's strategy, both Opel and Vauxhall are identical as they manufacture the same cars but use their own labels. However Opel designed and engineered all the cars in Germany. Opel is said to be one of the 6 major car manufacturers in Europe. The very important cars, which Opel produces are Astra, Corsa, Vectra, Omega and even the MPVs Zafira and Sintra along with some small models. The other popular models of Opel are Meriva, Agila, Speedster, Vectra / Signum and Tigra. Opel sold 1.6 million units in 2005. The assembly plants of Opel are situated at Bochum, Eisenach and Russelsheim.

Opel Facts

In 1899 Opel was established by the Opel family, who were famous industrialists. Currently Opel basks in the fame of being one of the selected few car producers, who are more than 100 years old. The first car plant of Opel was gained from Friedrich Lutzmann and after that another factory was built in Russelsheim, which is also the current headquarters of Opel. Just after 2 years, Opel split up from its partner to construct a French-designed car. 1909 was a milestone in the history of Opel, when the reliable, economical and modest Opel 4/8 hp model was produced.

It was evident from the immense success of Opel that the company had turned into one of the leaders of the German motor vehicle industry.
