Karl Marx

Karl Marx was not only a philosopher, historian, social scientist, revolutionary but a great socialist thinker in the 19th century as well. It was after his demise that the radical political, social and economic ideas of Karl Marx became greatly popular. Such was the popularity of Karl Marx that there was a time, when numerous nations of the world followed his principles.

The life of Karl Marx has been etched with many noteworthy events. Karl Marx was born in 1818 in Germany's Trier and belonged to a well-to-do family. Very early at the age of 17, Karl Marx studied law at the University of Bonn and was influenced by Hegelianism.

Karl Marx Works

Much of the economic ideas and expressions of Karl Marx are found in the “Economic and Political Manuscripts”, written in 1844. However this work of Karl Marx got published only in the 1930's. Here Karl Marx illustrated the idea of communism and delineated the difference between individuals working freely in a communist society as opposed to alienation and labor under capitalism.

Along with Engels, Karl Marx wrote the great and famous “The Communist Manifesto”, which was published around 1847. In this work the concepts of class struggles exiting between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat is exemplified. The other works of Karl Marx in which the details and explications of his economic theories are given are “Das Capital” and “Theory of the Surplus”

Karl Marx considered that philosophy could be effectively used to bring about a change in the entire world.
