German authors reverberate throughout the world and their works exist as lofty epistles of different theories, showcasing the intellectual wealth of Germany. There are uncountable famous German authors, who have earned immense fame.
Some Notable German Authors
- Immanuel Kant, born in Königsberg, completed his education at the University of that city and even was a professor over there for 40 years and more. The notable works of Kant make him one of the well-known German authors. His works like Critique of Pure Reason and Critique of Practical Reason have immortalized his name.
- Hans-Georg Gadamer was born in Southern Germany and much of his thinking was greatly linked with Greek thought, laying special emphasis on the thoughts of Plato and Aristotle. Gadamer was also crucial for developing philosophical hermeneutics, with which many thinkers were associated. Gadamer had been largely involved with art and literature all through his life. He had written a lot on important poets such as Goethe, Celan, Rilke and Hölderlin. His association with art is powerfully influenced by the theory of philosophy made famous by Hegel and Plato.
- Günter Grass, born in Danzig-Langfuhr was a farm laborer and miner and he learned art in Düsseldorf and Berlin. He began composing poetry in 1956 and started writing drama the next year. He has to his credit many literary awards along with the Nobel Prize for Literature, which he won in 1999.
- Martin Heidegger was not only one of the great German authors but a very noted important 20th century philosopher. His revolutionary thoughts have contributed to many fields such as existentialism, phenomenology, hermeneutics, psychology, political theory, post modernism and theology
- Jürgen Habermas is one of the great German authors and philosophers who links Anglo-American and continental schools of thought. His works cover topics like social-political theory to aesthetics, epistemology, language, religion and philosophy.
